Not much is known about the movements of Saw-whet Owls: some seem to be migratory, some irruptive and others nomadic. One way to learn more about this small owl species (the male weighs about as much as a Robin) is to band individuals with the hope of future recapture. We’ll spend part of our spooky Halloween night at a banding station with a master bird-bander. We’ll also explore the many wonderful habitats and preserves on the island, including Long Point, home to the Federally Endangered Lake Erie water snake; the North Shore Alvar State Nature Preserve; and, of course, the Glacial Grooves, the finest example of glacial scouring in North America. Fee will include roundtrip transportation to the island in the Museum van, the ferry ride, lodging and dinner on Friday night and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Limit 12.
Note: Please indicate the participating child's name and grade in the "comments" section upon check out. |
