Please indicate each participants' name and age in the "comments" section upon check-out.

Ah, February…the month when many humans are led by their hearts. Join our Health Education Science Instructors on an investigation of the anatomy and physiology of this mighty muscle.

*Note: For this class there is an additional materials fee of $1.00 per student to be paid on the date of the class

During this program, students will:

  • Practice how to use a stethoscope and sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff)
  • Find pulse points and discuss how a doctor can tell if your heart is working properly
  • Experiment with different types of exercise and how they can affect your heart’s health
  • Observe a demonstration of proper CPR technique
  • Learn the safe use and correct care of dissection tools
  • Dissect a sheep heart, and compare its anatomy to that of a preserved human heart
Programs may include hands-on, classroom and/or gallery presentations as appropriate. Students will be grouped by age according to enrollment. Cost of program is $6/person per topic with one adult free. Siblings younger than 6 may not attend these programs for older children.

In response to requests, we are adding programs for 4 and 5 year olds. These hands-on self-directed programs will be related to the topics listed above and run from 1:15 to 2 pm on the same days. Parents are expected to attend with their child. Cost of program is $6/person per topic.
