Serpentine Bird Fetish

This Zuni fetish was carved by Delvin Leekya.  The bird is carved from serpentine and the tail is inlaid with mother of pearl shell.  The Zuni Indians of western New Mexico believe that a true fetish is a representation of the animal it is thought to resemble  This piece measures 2.75 inches in length.
