Exhibits Coming Soon:
May 31 through September 1, 2008 Location: Kahn Hall Alien Earths, developed by the Space Science Institute, in Boulder, Colorado, presents origins-related research and discoveries to students and the general public. Visitors to the exhibition will join the search for planets around distant stars and for life beyond Earth, and will learn about the technology and methods scientists are using to search our galactic neighborhood.
Beyond: Visions of Planetary Landscapes
August 9 through October 5, 2008 Location: Fawick Gallery During the last few decades, interplanetary probes such as Magellan, Voyager 1 and 2, and the Viking Landers have sent us astounding images from the depths of space. Journalist, filmmaker, and artist Michael Benson carefully reviews these images, from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) archives, and then digitally enhances and manipulates the original raw data. Flawless and beautiful, the pictures look as though they were captured while Benson himself floated high above the surface of each planet. http://www.sites.si.edu/exhibitions/exhibits/beyond/main.htm
September 27, 2008 through January 4, 2009 Location: Kahn Hall The exhibition RACE: Are we so different? brings together the everyday experience of living with race, its history as an idea, the role of science in that history, and the findings of contemporary science that are challenging its foundations. Interactive exhibit components, historical artifacts, iconic objects, compelling photographs, multimedia presentations, and attractive graphic displays offer visitors to RACE an eye-opening look at its important subject matter.
Developed by the American Anthropological Association in collaboration with the Science Museum of Minnesota, RACE is the first nationally traveling exhibition to tell the stories of race from the biological, cultural, and historical points of view. Combining these perspectives offers an unprecedented look at race and racism in the United States.
RACE: Are We So Different? has been selected to receive the American Association of Museums 2008 Excellence in Exhibition award. You can view more information online at: http://www.understandingrace.org/
