Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Naturalist Certificate Program

Expand what you know about natural history through the Naturalist Certificate Program.

This program is for anyone who wants to increase his or her knowledge of natural history. Professional naturalists, volunteers, teachers and informal science educators should find it particularly useful.

The primary requirement of the program is a six-hour course called "The Science of Natural History." The Museum's curators teach this introduction to the wide range of scientific activity at the Museum. Participants must complete this course within 12 months of signing up for the program. (Notice will appear in our listing of adult classes.)

In addition, participants accrue "contact hours." They can do this by attending Museum classes, field trips, lectures and symposia and workshops in the Science Resource Center. (They can receive credit for what they've participated in over the past 12 months as well.) Participants must earn 150 hours to receive their certificate.

Those who have met all of the requirements of the program will be invited to attend a December graduation ceremony and reception acknowledging their efforts.
