Just Senseless – for grades K-2
Let’s find out what the five senses do by imagining life without them. Using hands-on props and demonstrations, we explore how life would be different if one or more of our senses were disabled. We also discuss how senses help to keep our bodies safe.
Note: For Distance Learning classes, a props kit will be sent to your school two weeks before the scheduled program with a prepaid UPS return label.

Hidden Kingdoms – for grades 1-3
Get an up-close look at bacteria and viruses and learn how the human body protects itself from these tiny invaders. Work with microscopes to view magnified images of germs and experiment with a UV light and Glo-Germ powder to test the effectiveness of different hand-washing techniques.

Bodyworks – for grades 4-6
What does a real heart look like? And how does it team up with our brain, muscles, bones and lungs? This program uses preserved specimens and anatomical models to teach students about the organization of the human body, structures and functions of several major organ systems and how they all work together.

Bug Off Bugs! – for grades 1-5
See what all the buzz is about as we explore the intricate relationships among microbes, insects, animals, humans and their habitats. Investigate the life cycles of insects and how many bugs are closely involved in human activities, whether we know it or not. Learn how certain bugs can contribute to the spread of diseases, and ways to protect yourself from unwanted bites!

Inner Factory – for grades 4-6
Your body has 75 trillion cells, making up all the organs that keep you alive. Likewise organelles are "little organs" that keep each individual cell alive. In this program, we will explore the "inner factory" of the living cell, comparing eukaryotic vs. prokaryotic cells, plant vs. animal cells, and organelles vs. their organ analogues.
Note: Distance learning program requires either a paper plate or a piece of construction paper for each student to use as a "cell membrane."

Body Blueprints – for grades 5-8
Investigate the basics of DNA and discover how the genes you inherited from your parents determine much of who you are. Review a double-helix model to see how genetic information is organized. Find out which students have dominant or recessive traits by conducting experiments with your class.

Wonder of New Life – for grades 4-8
Journey inside the uterus and see how pregnancy begins and follow the development of the embryo through the fetal stage. Discuss physical changes in the mother's body as she goes through her pregnancy and how the natural processes of sexual reproduction, menstruation and breastfeeding are healthy aspects of human life. The process of labor and delivery will be illustrated when we view a video of an actual birth.

Baby, Let Me Tell You About That Baby – for grades 7-12
Face the facts of teen pregancy as we discuss the lifelong physical, emotional and psychological outcomes of choosing to be sexually active for both young women and young men. Students will be exposed to the increased health risks to teen mothers and their children and possible complications of pregnancy. A live birth video is also available for viewing during this program.

Caught in the Web – for grades 7-12
Review the symptoms and treatments of common STDs as you view actual clinical images of sexually transmitted diseases and discuss symptoms and methods of transmission. Explore how the web of person-to-person contacts can quickly spread an infectious disease within a community and put all sexually active people at risk. Learn common treatments for these diseases and methods used to lower your risk of infection.

Disease Detectives – for grades 7-12
This just in: Nearly half of the students at East Coliville High School are sick with similar symptoms. As part of the health department epidemiology team, you will work together to eliminate false leads and piece together clues to determine the cause of this outbreak. It is up to your team to interpret data, identify the pathogen, locate its source and stop its spread before this illness claims more victims.

Learn the science behind the changing body and what to expect on the road to adulthood. Students will engage in an interactive discussion with a health educator on the physical and chemical changes that occur in the body during puberty. With the aid of fun demonstrations, large format images, models and specimens, we will discuss human reproductive anatomy, menstruation, nocturnal emissions and other issues.
