Archaeology: Discover what goes into and comes out of an archaeological dig. Interpret artifacts found by CMNH archaeologists. Investigate CMNH exhibits to gather information about the people of Ohio’s past.
Astronomy and Skysearch: Learn about planets, stars and rocks from space and be able to iden-tify constellations, stars and planets in the night sky. Read a star chart and explore current space mis-sions. You will learn about the tools and scopes used by astronomers, both amateur and profes-sional, and will discover the “dangers” of light pollution.
First Aid and Readyman: From small cuts and injuries to heart attacks and shock, learn how to handle health emergencies and be prepared. Led by a certified Red Cross Instructor, participants will assemble a first-aid kit and receive an American Red Cross Together We Prepare certificate.
Geologist and Rocks Rock: Discover the world of rocks and minerals all around you. Identify min-erals using Moh’s Hardness Scale and identify the hardness of common household items. Explore landforms and identify different types of volcanoes in an eruption activity. Learn to identify fossils and how they are formed.
Geology Merit Badge: Discover the rocks of Cleveland and make your own geologic column with local rocks to start your rock collection. Learn the rock cycle and explore the museum and find out what other gems you can unearth.
Highway to Health: Scouts will discuss the difference between healthy and unhealthy habits, learn about germs, discuss the importance of healthy sleep habits, and participate in some stress relieving activities. Keep smiling! We’ll also talk about the importance of taking care of your teeth and mouth.
Jewelry: Tour the Wade Gallery of Gems & Jewels. Participate in a gem trading activity with semi-precious stones. Look at how jewelry is used in other cultures. Design and string your own piece of jewelry.
Senses Try-It: Scouts will learn all about their five senses and participate in activities where they will smell, touch, taste, hear, and see the world in different ways. Scouts will also discover how to com-pensate for the loss of one sense by using the other senses.
Programming is scheduled by appointment on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 pm or Saturdays, 10 to 11:30 am or 1 to 2:30 pm. Programming is offered to scout groups of up to 25 people. (This total includes Scouts and adults with a 5:1 ratio preferred.) Boy Scout Merit Badge Classes are offered on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. (Includes 1 hour for lunch. Lunch is not provided.)
Cost of the Boy Scout Merit Badge Classes is $250/group. Cost of the other programs is $105/group. All classes include instruction for up to 25 Scouts, parking validation for 2 vehicles and Museum admission. A nonrefundable deposit of $25 is required at the time of registration.
