The property include rich, mixed forests, hemlock ravines, channel ponds, floodplain forests and high-quality floodplain meadows. Museum staff have found two rare plants on the Hubbard Preserve, buffalo berry and American water penny-wort. The buffalo berry is found nowhere else in the Conneaut Creek Valley. Conneaut Creek is one of the cleanest and most scenic rivers in Ohio.
The Hubbard Preserve has a spectacular example of old growth hemlock/sugar maple/beech/black cherry/yellow birch forest. The preserve also contains two very scenic waterfalls.
