Docent Program
Docents are volunteer teachers and Museum ambassadors. By sharing what they know about the Museum and natural history, docents help visitors get the most out of their time here. It's an important job, but also lots of fun.
Museum docents:
• Give guided tours of Museum galleries
• Explain the hands-on materials on special "Please Touch" carts
• Present Gallery Focus tours
• Assist with educational programs, events and activities on and off Museum grounds
Docents must complete a training course to become familiar with the Museum’s galleries, learn about natural history and become proficient at interacting with visitors of all ages. This course is offered every other year. After this training, docents must volunteer at least eight hours each month.
In return for their commitment, docents are recognized each year at Volunteer Appreciation Night. If you love to learn and enjoy sharing what you know with others, then consider becoming a docent.
