Entomology Collections: Type and Unusual
With some 1,000,000 invertebrate specimens in the collection, the Department of Invertebrate Zoology has a number of type specimens and rare/unusual specimens.
We list some of the more notable specimens here.
Type:
Specimen from which the original description was made when a species was first named.
Unusual/Rare:
Odd specimens; may be larger than usual, very rare, or represent a significant locality record.

Unusual: The agromyzid fly Melanagromyza diantherae (Diptera: Agromyzidae), adult and empty puparium. Collected from the riverine plant Justicia americana in Columbiana Co, the only known location for this species in Ohio. (Keiper et al. 1998)
