Pathology Collection

While the cadaver derived osteological collection contains many examples of bone trauma and pathology, the department also curates a separate bone pathology collection consisting of some 350 records with associated skeletal material.

These specimens were collected by Dudley Peter Allen during his tenure as Professor of Surgery at Western Reserve University (1883 -1892). T.W. Todd added specimens that were obtained during his WWI service in the Canadian Army Medical Corps to Allen’s collection. Todd experimented with a version of the Dewey Decimal system in an attempt to classify the records and material.

While they are not as spectacular as some of the specimens at other medical museums, these specimens do give a picture of medical care from the post Civil War era to the early 1900's.
