Responsible for the storage and retrieval of information and specimens from the collections housed in the Laboratory of Physical Anthropology; assists visiting scientists and Museum staff with research utilizing the collections in the Physical Anthropology Department

The Physical Anthropology Laboratory contains more than 4,000 primate skeletons and a large number of casts of fossil primates, including the world’s only collection of record casts of the early human ancestors from Hadar, Ethiopia.

The Hamann-Todd Osteological Collection comprises 3,100 modern human and more than 900 non-human primate skulls and skeletons. Each human skeleton is accompanied by detailed documentation, providing an invaluable resource for evolutionary and medical researchers. The non-human primate collection includes such rare and endangered specimens as aye-ayes and tarsiers. The great ape section includes the world’s largest collection of skeletons of the African apes, the gorilla and the common chimpanzee.
