Treefrogs – Family Hylidae

Six species of treefrogs occur in Ohio, several of which are widely distributed while others are restricted to geographical regions of the state. Treefrogs have long legs with circular or elliptical discs on their toes and fingers. The digital discs are enlarged in the spring peeper and gray treefrogs and assist these species in grasping and adhering to surfaces; consequently these species are good climbers. Digital discs of cricket frogs and chorus frogs are reduced in size with the result that these species are poor climbers.
