GreenCityBlueLake

As a service to the sustainability community of Northeast Ohio, the GreenCityBlueLake Institute maintains the GreenCityBlueLake.org website. The site is an online community workspace where the people and organizations advancing sustainability in the region can tell stories, learn from each other, and develop strategies to accelerate the progress. Join the conversation or sign-up to recieve an email updates.

The site is highly interactive and is designed to help people:

  • Share ideas about how to make Northeast Ohio a better place.
  • Learn how to get involved.
  • Save time by providing a concise, well-edited package of essential information.
  • Understand the important issues shaping the future of the region.
  • Promote the good work of organizations and businesses.

Content on the site promotes strategic conversations about the region's agenda in 11 "Practice Areas" of sustainability:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Building
  • Economy
  • Education
  • Energy
  • Food
  • Health
  • Land
  • Spirit
  • Transportation
  • Water

These are areas of "practice," which, according to the American Heritage Dictionary, means "to do or perform habitually or customarily" or "to exercise or perform repeatedly in order to acquire or polish a skill" or "to work at, especially as a profession." Thus, the site seeks to make the practice of sustainability the default habit and skill of Northeast Ohio.
