Welcome to the Smead Discovery Center web pages!
The Museum’s Smead Discovery Center is the Museum’s hands-on learning center located on the Lower Level. It is an intergenerational space designed for all visitors. We have lots of activities for families and young children. School groups are always welcome. Adults without children are welcome too!
Our activities change frequently so when you come back, there’s something new! We also offer programs. Check out the rest of our site for our activities, special exhibits, program details and history.
| Next Program: Toad Tunes and Raccoon Rhapsodies on March 26 at 3:30 p.m. |
Tips and Info for your First Visit
• You do not need a reservation. • If you’re seeking a very quiet visit, come early. See our hours above. We are on the Lower Level. Ask a staff person for directions. • Restrooms with baby changing stations are near the Discovery Center. • The Blue Planet Cafe on the Main Level serves luncheon foods daily. You can also eat the snack you bring with you in the cafe at any time. No food or drink in the Museum Galleries, please. • We believe that even the youngest children benefit from being exposed to the natural world. Babies are welcome. Children from ages 3 – 10 frequent the center most. Children must have adult supervision. • Staff and volunteers are in the room to welcome and assist you. Please ask questions. We hope you have a fun and educational visit!
