Summary

A part-time staff member who will coordinate the day-to-day business of the Science Resource Center (SRC). Manages the Museum’s educational loan program and registration of teacher workshops/in-service trainings and college courses, and manages accounts receivable.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Science Resource Center.
  • Assist SRC members with borrowed materials including, but not limited to, checking materials in/out, making reservations for materials, and suggesting materials teachers might use for particular topics.
  • Answer inquiries in person, via e-mail and on the telephone about the loan program, teacher workshops and other SRC activities and materials.
  • Inventory of thematic teaching kits on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis; advise Manager of School and Teacher Programs of status on a weekly basis.
  • Manage quality control of kits; replace lost and/or damaged items as necessary.
  • Assist in updating kit curriculum and teacher guides including the alignment of materials with Ohio’s New Learning Standards.
  • Regularly input and update kit and loan material information into the database.
  • Maintain patron records and notifications in the database.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Museum and the L4U Software company to ensure consistent communication regarding continued maintenance and updates of the loan database system.
  • Oversee the evaluation and revision of existing kits and the creation of new teaching kits and dioramas.
  • Register teachers and process payments for professional development workshops and programs.
  • Compile statistics needed for monthly and yearly reports including but not limited to the loan program, college courses, and teacher workshops/in-service trainings.
  • Collaborate with and oversee SRC volunteers and interns.
  • Assist Manager of School and Teacher Programs with special projects as requested.
  • Maintain professional conduct with Museum staff and the public at all times. 

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Background in science education and/or science instruction or library services preferred.
  • Work-related experience in an educational setting and/or office preferred.
  • Knowledge of curriculum alignment and content learning standards preferred.
  • Knowledge of or work-related experience with inventory control, accounts receivable, and scheduling.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Professional telephone and interpersonal skills; Ability to multi-task and work with the public pleasantly under stressful situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows XP platform; Word, Excel, Publisher, and Access.
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Strong commitment to science education and the goals of The Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
  • Available to work weekday afternoons, several full-day shifts, and Saturdays.
