Responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the wildlife collection including monitoring health, providing enrichment, and training for a diverse collection of animals from amphibians and reptiles to mammalian carnivores and birds of prey.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring the health of the animals.
  • Responsible for providing training and enrichment of Museum animals.
  • Responsible for the daily care of indoor and outdoor facilities, including ponds and grounds.
  • Train and supervise interns and volunteers.
  • Present formal and informal live animal programs.
  • Collaborate with wildlife staff and veterinarians on all areas of wildlife husbandry, health, training and enrichment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager of Wildlife Resources, the Director of Wildlife Resources or Museum Administration.
  • Performs all required job responsibilities with our without reasonable accommodation.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in Natural Sciences; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in handling and training live animals, especially native wildlife.
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining the health of live animal collections.
  • Experience or training in AZA accredited organizations, wildlife rehabilitation center or equivalent- IWRC skill training or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
