Crawling Crinoids!

Although they may look plantlike, crinoids are far from it—they're animals! Early crinoids were stationary as adults; over time, however, adult crinoids evolved the ability to move. By detaching its holdfast and crawling with its arms and cirri, a crinoid can escape danger and find food.

The video on this page was created by Dr. Charles Messing, who sadly passed away in 2023.
We are grateful for his contributions to research on all things Crinoidea.
