Sauropod dinosaurs are the largest known animals ever to have walked on land. Some of these long-necked giants exceeded 30 meters (100 feet) in length. To reach these massive sizes, sauropods evolved several unusual adaptations to giant body size.
Like other dinosaurs, sauropods laid eggs. Surprisingly, these eggs were often only around the size of a football.
Below is a 3D scan of one of the Museum's specimens: a titanosaur egg. Using the size reference, consider an animal hatching from an egg of this size and growing into one of the largest creatures to walk the Earth!
