Chimpanzee Tool Use

Chimpanzees are known to use tools to access foods that would otherwise be difficult to obtain. Some chimpanzees use stones to crack open nuts, while others modify sticks to fish for termites, ants, or honey from hives. However, tool use is not universal among all chimpanzees, and practices vary depending on the community. This variability has led some scientists to consider chimpanzee tool use a form of culture, with each chimpanzee group developing its own unique tool traditions. Knowledge and information about tools are acquired through social interactions within the group and can even be passed down over generations.
