Calling all ghouls, goblins, and ghosts: Dust off your costumes, break out your magical dance moves, and assemble your spooky squad. The time has come for an evening of wicked fun at Think & Drink with the Extinct: Monster Bash—a 21+ event where science and nature meet the supernatural.

Join us for an eerie evening of:

DJs & dancing – Shake your bones to spine-chilling beats all night long.

Spooky animal adaptations – Play an interactive game and examine specimens with Assistant Curator of Vertebrate Zoology Roberta Muehlheim and uncover the uncanny ways animals adapt to survive.

Dino mystery maze – Collect clues as you navigate a dino-themed mystery of prehistoric proportions.

The true tale of Gigantopithecus – Feast your eyes on fossil casts of the largest ape ever to have walked the Earth and learn about this real-life “monster” with Dr. Emma Finestone, Associate Curator and the Robert J. and Linnet E. Fritz Endowed Chair of Human Origins.

Halloween trivia – Test your knowledge on all things scary and science.

The science of monsters – Join Dr. Nicole Burt, Curator of Human Health & Evolutionary Medicine, and use the scientific method to unpack the idea of “monsters”—and discover why these horrors can’t exist.

Stargazing – Turn your gaze to the stars with Museum astronomers in the Thelma and Kent H. Smith Environmental Courtyard and learn what’s lurking in the night sky (weather permitting).

Costume prizes* – Whether you dress to impress or terrify, attend in costume and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a free Museum membership!

Members-only lounge – If you’re a Museum member, you’ll also get access to an exclusive lounge featuring an up-close look at some of the Museum’s most important fossil hominin casts with Dr. Ebeth Sawchuk, Associate Curator of Human Evolution, plus Halloween-inspired refreshments. Learn more about membership.

We’ll also be joined by several sensational partners, including:
