Connecting students with science, literacy, and math through Museum collections
Since 2020, all East Cleveland City Schools kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders have become increasingly familiar with Dunkleosteus terrelli, the Museum's iconic armored fish, through the SLAM Dunk program—an initiative that uses the Museum’s extensive collections to achieve science, literacy, and math learning objectives. Through this program, students engage with the Museum at several points throughout each school year. In total, the program consists of several components: Museum, in-school, and virtual programs; teacher professional development; books and STEM materials for students and classrooms; and an exclusive Family Pass for program participants. Ultimately, the program will advance the Museum’s mission to inspire, through science and education, a passion for nature, the protection of natural diversity, the fostering of health, and leadership to a sustainable future.
New in 2024: Urban Community School and Warrensville Heights School District are joining the SLAM Dunk family!
