List of Natural Areas

List of Museum Natural Areas

This list of Museum preserves is current as of November 2023.

The primary purpose of the Museum’s Natural Areas Program is conservation. Our goal is to preserve and steward native habitats to sustain each preserve's biodiversity—protecting these special places for the animals and plants that call them home. We closely monitor human impact on our natural areas and, to that end, most Museum preserves are only open to the public for field trips or by request. We do offer field trips all year long, and we encourage you to visit them through these naturalist-led hikes.

Several of our preserves are open to the public for hiking, birding and nature observation, and passive recreation: Mentor Marsh and the North Kingsville Sand Barrens are open year-round, while Scheele Preserve is open during summer months.

If you wish to apply for written permission to visit our preserves, please contact Ken Schneider at kschneider@cmnh.org or 216.231.4600 x3505.
