When you choose what to eat, it feels like an independent choice. In reality, those choices are shaped by the food systems around you and the people you share meals with.

Health recommendations are often directed at individuals, but many of our decisions are affected by the people who surround us. The food we buy, prepare, and eat is influenced by our households, relationships, and daily routines.

Dr. Nicole Burt, Senior Director of Curatorial and Research Affairs and Curator of Human Health and Evolutionary Medicine at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will explore cultural and household dynamics that affect our individual and community health. Using examples from her current research, she will discuss how stress at home impacts our diet and health. The conversation continues in our new gallery, What is Health? where you’ll explore the experiences with a new perspective.

Doors open at 6pm; the program begins at 6:30pm in the Rare Book Room. The evening will continue in the galleries and conclude with a reception in the Visitor Hall.
