Smead Discovery Center presented by PNC

Hands-on fun for young explorers of science and nature

Smead Discovery Center—Presented by PNC is the Museum’s hands-on learning center. Located on the lower level, this intergenerational space has been completely reimagined to encourage guests to enjoy the wonders of science and nature together. While the center is designed primarily for our youngest scientists (children ages 7 and younger), visitors of all ages are invited to dig for dinosaurs, take an up-close look at Museum specimens, design constellations, and so much more.

Show and Tell

On weekdays at 12:30 am and 2:00 pm, and weekends at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm join our early-childhood educators for a special show-and-tell program!

Tips for first-time visitors

  • Space in the Discovery Center is first come, first served.
  • If you’re seeking a quiet visit, early hours are best.
  • We are located on the Museum’s lower level. Museum staff members are more than happy to assist with directions.
  • Restrooms with baby-changing stations are located near the Discovery Center.
  • Please enjoy any food or drink in our Origins Café.
