10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Join the Friends of CMNH on the second Saturday of each month at 10am for coffee and conversation, followed at 10:30am by the Friends of CMNH Science Series.
In this talk, Dr. Ruchi Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor of Earth System Science & Data Analytics at Cleveland State University, will delve into the stories of human disturbance and climate change recorded in lake sediments. By analyzing algal fossils and geochemical indicators from these sediments, we gain insights into how lakes have transformed over the past century. Specifically, we will explore the causes and timing of increasing greenness (i.e., algal blooms) observed in lakes across the globe.
This event is open to the public. Registration is required, whether you plan to attend the 10:30am talk in person or virtually. The deadline to register is 5pm the day before the program. You will receive a Zoom link the day before the presentation.

About Ruchi Bhattacharya, Ph.D.
Dr. Ruchi Bhattacharya is Assistant Professor of Earth System Science & Data Analytics at Cleveland State University. Her research explores aquatic ecosystems through the lens of climate change and landscape alterations. In particular, she focuses on combining field- and lab-based measurements with big-data analytics to unravel local–global scale variability in nutrient biogeochemical processes and its water-quality implications from decadal to centennial scales. Dr. Bhattacharya received her Ph.D. in environmental dynamics from the University of Arkansas.
