How did the Cleveland Underwater Explorers (CLUE) solve the mystery of the final resting place of the C.B. Lockwood? The 300-foot-long steamer was one of the largest wooden ships to be lost in Lake Erie when it sank in October 1902, off the Grand River in Ohio. Its loss offers a harrowing account of a stormy night spent in a small yawl boat for the nine survivors, including the captain and his wife. But why—after all these years and many searches—had the wreck not been found? It was marked with a buoy and extensively surveyed by the U.S. government soon after it sank. Though divers began searching for the elusive wreck more than 40 years ago, it was never located—until recently. Join Kevin Magee, co-founder of CLUE, as he unravels the mystery.
This event is open to the public. Registration is required, whether you plan to attend the 10:30am talk in person or virtually. You will receive the Zoom link in your registration confirmation email.
