About a century ago, a hominin skull blown out of a limestone quarry in Zambia marked the birth of paleoanthropology (the study of ancient humans) in Africa.

While many famous fossils from the continent—including Lucy, Ardi, and Turkana Boy—are household names, the many African scientists and workers who contributed to these discoveries are not.

Join Dr. Ebeth Sawchuk, Associate Curator of Human Evolution at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, as she reflects on the last 100 years of fossil hunting in Africa, how the field has changed, and the work that still lies ahead to achieve an equitable and inclusive future for science.

Doors open at 6pm; the program begins at 6:30pm in the Rare Book Room. The evening will continue in the galleries and conclude with a reception in the Visitor Hall.
