New Discounted Rate Offered Through Museums for All
CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY OFFERS $1 ADMISSION FOR INDIVIDUALS RECEIVING FOOD ASSISTANCE THROUGH SNAP
Cleveland, OH — (Nov. 16, 2021) – Beginning today, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will offer $1 admission for participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The new admissions policy is implemented through Museums for All, the only nationally coordinated financial accessibility program in the museum field. Visitors can simply show their SNAP EBT (electronic benefit transfer) card to be eligible for discounted Museum admission for up to four guests.
“We are excited to help make the Museum accessible to all members of our community by removing the potential barrier of cost of admission,” said Sonia Winner, President & CEO. “This program will welcome more families to the Museum to explore and discover together, and foster the ongoing pursuit of scientific knowledge in curious learners of all ages.”
Winner continued, “For children, students, and adults, an understanding of science is critically important to safeguarding our natural world and improving the civic life of our communities and country.”
This summer, the Museum sponsored a survey conducted by the Marist Poll, which found that 90 percent of Americans think it is necessary for people like themselves to have a basic understanding of science. Additionally, 85 percent of the public wants to learn more about science, while close to half report they are falling behind in their understanding. Participation in the Museums for All initiative allows more community members in Northeast Ohio to pursue their interest in exploring science and nature at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Since the launch of Museums for All in 2014, the initiative has served more than 3 million visitors nationwide at more than 700 museums of all varieties, representing 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Museums for All is an access initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which is administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM). At the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Museums for All initiative is presented by sponsors Paul Lincoln and Kathy Toderick.
